Hi Kiara and welcome

It does make you wonder, doesn't it? The mind can certainly play tricks on all of us and that is what we have to remember.

What would happen if I said it definitely is the paranormal? How would you respond? Would you do anything differently? Sometimes, I think, its a good idea to know what we will do with information before we actually get it - if you know what I mean?

Here are a few things you could try:
. ask around about the apartment and its history?
. consider how you are feeling about being there. Is this your first time away from home? Are you anxious about anything (beyond the normal stuff)?
. does the temperature of the apartment change or do you notice anything else about the atmosphere when these things are happening?

Start with these thoughts Kiara and let us know how it goes.

Cheers

I just moved into an apartment and lately, at night, the bathroom door will open on its own slowly and then slam shut.

I sometimes wonder if it's wind but the I never open the windows and the bathroom is down a hallway. The other day we had a house warming party and my cousin stayed over.

We were watching a movie in the living room when we heard the door slam shut. From the corner of my eye I could see the door slowly opening but when I turned my head to look the door stopped.

As I turned my head back to watch the movie the door slamed shut again.

Another time I was in the shower and again I was home alone (I always lock the bathroom door when I'm in there) and, as I was showering, I could hear my bathroom door slam shut.

I looked and noone was there. Now the same thing is happening with my bedroom door. Do u think its paranormal?

Hi Nina

Thanks for joining this conversation.

I know where you are coming from in referring to paranormal research as the step child of science and think this probably a good description of how it is viewed within academia. However, I take heart that psychology was once a step child of science also and now it stands independently and firmly on its own two feet. So, there is hope that parapsychology will one day follow suit.

I guess Im a paranormal moderate and I would say that most of here on the Forum are too (anyone like to disagree with this? Now would be a good time to raise your hand). My moderation comes from not feeling that I don't have to prove or defend anything about parapsychology. To me, the paranormal just is. So, let the qualitative and quantitative research continue.

Does you interest in the paranormal come from personal experience Nina or is it more an offshoot of religious beliefs perhaps?

Cheers

How do you regard the paranormal?

I think the paranormal is an unfortunate stepchild of scientific inquiry and investigation. Sadly so because there is much we don't know and much that could be learned if the paranormal were studied in a serious, systematic way and those who studied it wouldn't risk being marginalized professionally.

Is it mainstream to you?

I would have to say subjectively no, but if one considers the amount of television programs and movies that are highly successful that deal with paranormal subjects, then one would have to say it has become mainstream.

If one considers folkloric beliefs that could be described as either paranormal or having a paranormal component are found globally, then it could be said that indeed interest in the paranormal is mainstream.

Are you too a paranormal moderate?

Yes.

Louise, you're so right. It seems to be the more we live the more questions we have that go unanswered.

I believe we choose the family into which we are born and within that context, I guess we each have our own path to tread.

I remember some time back when I heard an old friend had died unexpectedly I wailed and felt myself open up and for a few days we were together again. It was such a comforting and intimate experience and I can remember that it began with a sense of me 'opening up'. Obviously, this isnt the only way to be with the deceased - which of course leads me to create another unanswered question - how many ways are there to open up?
